Official Hat Chairs with Protruding Ends (pair)

Catalogue Reference 102

( Product ID 0000000013 ) ( Category: Chairs, Stool and Benches )

These chairs are particularly elegant. They are very simple in their design, reflecting a style developed in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) which has remained popular to the present day. The front leg posts extend to the armrest while the back leg posts extend to the back support all the way to the top rail. From structural point of view, using single piece of timber in the vital supporting posts reinforces the structural strength.
The double stretchers on the side enhance the strength of the chairs. An unusual feature is the humpback stretchers compared to the more usual solid apron. This gives a sense of lightness to the chair.
